Susanna had to have a baby tooth pulled at the dentist. We had to make an new appointment for a different day and that meant she had to worry and anticipate the visit. During the wait, we began the "tooth fairy" price negotiation process.
Now Alex had a tooth pulled by the dentist once and it was terribly traumatic for him. It was also my first child with his first professionally pulled tooth and it tugged at my heart strings. The tooth fairy paid a lot of money for that tooth as a result.
So here we are now, with child #2 and tooth #2, and the tooth fairy is beginning to calculate how many children and how many teeth from this kind of situation that might have to be paid for. Needless the say, the tooth fairy tried to reduce her offer for dentist-pulled teeth.
In the end, we did agree on a price ... but Susanna compromised her timing. She agreed to a dollar amount but also agreed to wait until the tooth fairy actually HAD the money without having to make a special trip to Walmart to retrieve said price in actual cash.
So the special tooth lays waiting in it's plastic yellow treasure box the dentist so lovingly placed it in next to the TV remote control here in the living room. The tooth fairy is trying hard NOT to imagine what they'll negotiate for when they are teenagers ...
